What is the reason for the slaughter?
I understand why they want to capture the dolphins, and we are much to blame for that, but why the killings?
Do they eat these animals?

Hey Vaughan
Yes Dolphin meat is consumed in small parts of Japan. Most of the meat is labelled WHALE because in the bigger cities no one wants to buy Dolphin meat. It’s also contains dangerously high levels of Mercury. Effectively making it poisonous. The sad part Is mercury poisoning takes a long time to take ‘effect’ and the health risks are well documented here in Japan, some still choose to ignore it. It’s vitally important to remember that the selling of meat is largely unsustainable and the fisherman only started to sell captives three to four years ago when they began to see that the hunt was becoming unprofitable. Close the demand for captives and you shut down the hunt. It’s now simple economics.
